While marketed by the manufacturer as a cleaver, this is basically a hefty santoku and it's perfectly reasonable to be using this as an all around knife. The standard Mac Superior santoku (SK-65)is cut from a 2mm thick blank. This knife is 3mm thick and weighs 8.4 ounces. So, it's 3 ounces heavier than the santoku and for those of us who prefer a heavier knife, this is a great choice.
