Echizen knives are manufactured by a consortioum of high-tech knife makers operating out of Takefu Knife Village in Echizen, Japan. A premium knife requires the best steel, expert craftsmanship, state of the art manufacturing equipment and exact, temperature specific forging processes. All of these steps need to be done perfectly to bring out the qualities we're looking for in a VG10 steel. By grouping together to form a consortioum, the craftsmen of Takefu Knife Village have the equipment, experience and resources to produce some of the finest knives in the world. We are pleased to be able to offer these innovative knives, designed by Chiaki Murata, who is world reknowned for his product designs.
About the Echizen 1310 Series: Damascus is a term with multiple meanings for a knife, but has become widely known as a knife with a hard core that has been clad with several layers of softer steel that are then shot blasted to produce beautiful lines and configurations along the blade. Echizen 1310 knives are more of a "True" Damascus knife. Multiple layers of VG10 and VG2 steel are welded together, forged and annealed to form a blade that is extremely light, thin and strong with a striking damascus pattern. This is also referred to as a core-less knife, since there is no core of hard steel, but rather an entire multi-layered blade of hard steel.
