This is your basic coil spring type pocket thermometer which I have used for many years. They are durable and dependable, but need to be re-calibrated if dropped. This is easily done by turning the hex screw located at the base of the dial. Notice that the plastic sheath has a hole to for the stem, and ridges that fit the adjustment screw. To calibrate, simply insert the thermometer into the hole and dip the stem into boiling water. It should read 212 F at sea level. If it does not, just turn the dial until it does.
